In What Order Should You Play The God Of War Games?

If there’s one game series that has surpassed expectations and which has continually impressed people with its unique gameplay and story, that would be God of War.

They follow Kratos, who is a Spartan warrior that becomes the God of War. With that in mind, you get to enter a Greek Mythology and also a Norse Mythology era, both of which are really well made and the gameplay itself is super exciting.

The optimal play order is actually chronological and goes like this:

  1. God of War
  2. God Of War 2
  3. God Of War 3
  4. God Of War: Ascension
  5. God Of War: 2018
  6. God Of War: Ragnarok

God of War

The original game is the first one to play, and here Kratos needs to find Pandora’s Box. This is the right way to defeat Ares. It’s quite an interesting story here, since we find out that Kratos was a servant of Ares, and he was tricked into killing his family.

God of War 2

God of War launched in 2007 and in this game Kratos is betrayed by none other than Zeus. He must find the sisters of fate that will prevent his death at the hands of Zeus. Athena saves Zeus by sacrificing herself. Kratos ends up joining the Titans and Gaia trying to attack Olympus.

God of War 3

The titans abandon Kratos, and he tries to find the Flame of Olympus as a way to defeat Zeus. He engages the titans and gods in battles in Olympus and the Underworld. This particular title is incredibly fun and it does bring in a lot of fun moments to try out. That’s exactly why a lot of people like this, because the story was quite fresh.

God of War Ascension

God of War is predating Chains of Olympus, who was a spinoff for the PSP. It’s also the only game in the series where you have multiplayer, and a lot of people found it interesting and extremely exciting, which is what made it such a rewarding and fun experience.

God of War 2018

This game brings us the Norse Saga of the series. Kratos ends up in Midgard, and he has a son. His wife has passed, and the two want to place her ashes at the highest peak of the nine realms. They do encounter a lot of familiar names from the Norse mythology.

God of War Ragnarok

Ragnarok is not launched at the time of this writing, but it’s set to arrive sometime in 2022. The game is bringing in Ragnarok, which will also cap off the Norse series of the game. So unlike the original, the Norse series will not be a trilogy.

God of War has continually impressed players with fast paced gameplay and a lot of creative decisions. The Norse series made things even more interesting, and it’s amazing to see how it all came together and the unique game worlds we got to explore.

While generally God of War games take a lot of time to develop, they have amazing stories and people love them because they are so creative and exciting. It’s as great idea to play these games right away!
